Meet Joia

Joia Mattheson MS, CNS

Hi, I'm Joia (pronounced joy-ah), I'm so glad you're here!

I am a functional medicine trained Integrative Clinical Nutritionist, Womens Health Coach, and founder of Joia Nutrition. I specialize in reproductive health, cycle health, pre-conception, pregnancy, and postpartum.

My philosophy is based on the knowing that the human body is not the sum of it's individual parts, but rather an integrated whole. In other words: everything is connected. My approach is whole food centered and bioindividual - we work together to determine your unique needs. My definition of health is not the absence of disease, it is a vibrant state of being that enables you to live your best life.

Testimonials

“My period has completely normalized since tracking it and I know exactly when I'm ovulating. It's empowering to understand what's going on in my body especially for the future when I plan to start a family. The program was wonderful and I learned so much! I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to get a better understanding for how their body is working and to be able to use that as a tool for whatever their personal goals are.”

Why Naturopathy

Tools I use as an Integrative Clinical Nutritionist

Personalized Nutrition

The food we put in our bodies 3+ times daily has the greatest impact on our health outcomes, whether it be positive or negative. I educate and guide my clients on how to eat appropriately for their specific bioindividual physiology, which is a skill that reaps rewards for a lifetime.

Bloodwork & Functional Labs

Bloodwork is one of the most economical forms of testing, and when analyzed for optimal levels as opposed to lab "normal" levels it can be extremely valuable. Blood work can be added to any of my packages, or I can analyze your existing blood work.

Some of my favorite functional labs to use are the DUTCH test, which profiles sex hormones and their metabolites, stress hormones, neurotransmitters, and more. I also use stool testing that profiles the gut microbiome, digestive function, and checks for pathogenic organisms and parasites. Hair tissue mineral analysis can assess mineral ratios and heavy metal levels more effectively than blood work.

Herbal Medicine

Herbs are some of the most powerful natural tools we have available to us. I often utilize them in my practice to help with balancing hormones, managing stress, soothing the GI, rebalancing gut flora, and more.

Nutraceuticals

I make personalized supplement recommendations based on lab results, clinical intake results, physical exam results, and analysis of your diet to both help fill in nutrient gaps and address imbalances. All of my clients have access to discounted professional-grade supplements.

Lifestyle & Behavior change

My background as a health coach makes me well equipped to coach clients on lifestyle changes beyond nutrition. There are so many determinates of health other than food.
